Ask the Expert
Greenville’s copious amounts of sporting venues and organizations provide a wide spectrum of sporting experts to fit your convention or meeting needs. For the expertise of a local expert, we would love to help you contact one of Greenville’s recreational clubs, leagues or sporting facilities. If you are seeking a professional’s expertise, speaker opportunities abound in the Greenville Drive, the annual BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament, the USA Cycling Pro Championship and other sporting events unique to Greenville. Athletes and coaches from Furman University and Clemson University provide a valuable resource as well.

Sports Overview
  • The Greenville Drive, a feeder team for The Boston Red Sox and a member of the South Atlantic League is surely a highlight in the Greenville sports scene. The Greenville Drive’s home, Fluor Field at the West End, is a replica of Fenway Park, complete with a “Green Monster”, manual scoreboard, and “Pesky’s Pole”. Ballpark Digest awarded West End Field with its highest rating, 5 Baseballs.
  • Other activities for baseball fanatics revolve around “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, who began his baseball career in Greenville. Visit the “Shoeless” Joe Jackson statue at the south end of Main and Augusta Streets, his grave at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens on Wade Hampton Blvd., the park devoted to this native baseball legend located in West Greenville’s Brandon Mill and the Shoeless Joe Museum and Baseball Library across from Fluor Field.
  • If golfing is your passion, you will not easily grow bored, as there are over 60 golf courses in Greenville County, including some of the top courses rated by Golf Digest.  Attend the BMW Charity Pro-Am for some professional golf, celebrity citing and to support a worthy cause. This annual golf tournament in which amateurs and celebrities are paired with Nationwide Tour Professionals raises millions of dollars for various Upstate charities.
  • Both road and mountain biking opportunities abound here, which is one of the chief reasons why Bike Magazine rated Greenville as one of the “Top 5 Best Places to Live and Ride”. As for professional cycling, Greenville plays host to The USA Cycling Pro Championship, showcasing some of the nation’s top cyclists.
  • If your idea of sports involves zooming race cars and screeching tires, then head to the Greenville-Pickens Speedway or other tracks within a short drive from Greenville for your NASCAR fix or get behind the wheel yourself at the BMW Performance Driving School.
  • To experience the fun, All-American, college athletics scene, check out one of the Division I athletic teams at Greenville’s Furman University or nearby Clemson University. Furman plays for the SOCON, and Clemson is a member of the ACC.
  • If the outdoors exhilarates you, prepare to be floored by the opportunities that the local mountains, rivers and lakes provide for you. There are over 300 waterfalls within a two-hour drive and 12 state parks within an hour drive of Greenville. Head to Paris Mountain, Caesars Head, Jones Gap, or Table Rock State Parks for a day on the hiking trails.
  • Fulfill your fishing, boating and water sport desires at breathtaking Lake Jocassee or Lake Keowee.
  • Numerous recreational clubs have been created in Greenville to cultivate interest in various sports. These include but are not limited to The Pendleton Area Saddle Club, The Greenville Kennel Club, The Greenville Spinners, The Foothills Paddling Club, The Greenville Natural History Association, The Foothills Trail Conference, and the Upstate Trail Rider Association.
