| Scheduled to open summer 2009 in downtown Greenville, The Children's Museum is transforming the 79,000 square foot former Hughes Main Library into three floors of hands-on discovery and lifelong learning. Focusing on the areas of arts, humanities, sciences, health and nutrition, the exhibits will encourage each child to dream and explore possibilities for a day, potentially inspiring their choices for a lifetime. Program offerings will focus on ages 2 to 15 with most exhibits designed for ages 6 to 10, and targeted exhibits focused on infant and toddler ages 0 to 5. The museum will also develop school partnerships, after school workshops, programs for at-risk and under-served youth, a middle school leadership initiative, performance opportunities, and parent resource programs on early childhood education. The Children’s Museum will serve all children and families of the Upstate of South Carolina as well as tourists from Charlotte to Atlanta and beyond. |
